Riding waves is universal in the truest sense in that anybody can do it. Stand up, sit down, prone, paddle stick or flippers, young, old and physically challenged, the waves does not care how they are ridden, a contest simply demands the cheers from the spectators and the display of skill from the contestants. As part of our commitment to the development of a surfing culture on the West Coast of South Africa, we host annual competitions to foster long term growth of the sport.

Show us your style
Open. As the name suggests, this surfing competition is Open to everyone, Open to all ages, Open to all surfing styles, Open Open.
The 2026 Open Open Competition on the West Coast of South Africa will migrate from Paternoster to Trekoskraal! 2024 marked the first event of its kind on the West Coast and will be an annual competition for the holidays on the Extreme Abilities calendar. Moving forward towards the future we are dedicated to showcase the wonderful wave breaks of the Weskus Peninsula. Braaivleis at Trekokraal, no not braai some vleis at Trekoskraal, yes that too, but the 2026 competition location is a surf spot called Braaivleis and it is found at Trekoskraal.

Any kind of wave riding craft allowed. Soft top, hard top, short board, long board, bodyboard, sitksi, paddle ski, SUP, if you can ride a wave with it come and show us your style.
The waves are not concerned about physical ability or disability on land. In the ocean the waves and sets are truly equal. If you can navigate the line up and ride waves, come and show us your style.
Any style of surfing at any level of performance, you bring what you have and show us your style. This contest is about showcasing the variety of wave riding styles.

All bodyboarders, longboarders, shortboarders, parasurfers, sit skiers and kneeboarders, this is a Surfing contest open all ages and all divisions to compete in the spirit of play, show your surfing style and impress the crowd. This was a family fueled event where parents and siblings surfed it out for bags of biltong and cash prizes.
